Nebraska men’s basketball has broken into the top 10 in the Associated Press Top 25 for the first time since 1966 after the Cornhuskers knocked off No. 9 Michigan State Friday. Nebraska has started the season 14-0 and has won 18 straight games dating back to last year’s run through the Crown Tournament.
The Huskers have risen 15 spots in the last month after wins over the Spartans and No. 13 Illinois. Nebraska was last ranked in the top 10 on Feb. 28, 1966, when the Huskers were ranked No. 9 in the Top 10. Nebraska was in the Top 10 for four consecutive months in February 1966, rising as high as eighth on Feb. 21 before falling to No. 9 on Feb. 28. The 1965-66 Huskers finished 20-5 overall and 12-2 in the Big Eight, finishing second in the league. But since only one team was taken from each conference to the NCAA Tournament, Nebraska was left out of the tournament field.
The Huskers matchup with Ohio State Monday at 5:30 p.m., with pregame coverage at 4:30 p.m. on KLIN.
