Residents have a chance to get rid of unwanted, hazardous household chemicals during two no-cost “HazToGo” collection events in April.
The events are as follows:
- Friday, April 24, 2 to 6 p.m., Hickman Fire Station (401 W. 7th St., Hickman)
- Saturday, April 25, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Star City Shores (4375 S. 33rd Ct.)
HazToGo, Lincoln’s Hazardous Waste Center, is a safe and convenient local option for household hazardous waste collection. Residents are asked to gather unwanted chemicals into a leak-proof tote, load them into your vehicle, drive through one of the waste collection events, and staff will unload those chemicals from your vehicle.
Accepted items include: pesticides, lawn and garden chemicals, household cleaning products, paint thinners, stains, polishes and waxes, turpentine, oil-based paint, pool cleaning chemicals, flea and tick powders, rodent poison, charcoal starter fluids, mixed or old gasoline, antifreeze, brake or power steering fluids, vape products, and items containing mercury such as CFLs and thermometers.
Business waste is not handled at these events.
Prohibited items include: latex paint, gas grill cylinders, medicines and pharmaceutical waste, electronics, firearms and ammunition. For information on recycling these and other materials, visit recycle.lincoln.ne.gov and use the “What Bin Does It Go In?” search tool.
Products that are still good quality and useable are made available at no cost at the GoodToGo reuse store. GoodToGo is conveniently located beside HazToGo at 5101 N. 48th St. Both HazToGo and GoodToGo are open Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the third Saturday each month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. From May through August, HazToGo and GoodToGo Wednesday hours will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday hours will remain the same.
