The names of two fallen Nebraska heroes have been added to the Nebraska Law Enforcement Memorial Wall in Grand Island.
During a ceremony on Friday morning, Trooper Kyle McAcy and Corrections Officer Kolby Baber were honored with the placement on the Memorial Wall. The wall lists the names of all Nebraska law enforcement officers who have given their lives in the line of duty.
Trooper Kyle McAcy was killed in the line of duty on February 17, 2025, while investigating a crash in winter storm conditions on Interstate 80 near Ashland. Corrections Officer Kolby Baber passed away on August 17, 2021, from health complications after contacting COVID-10 while serving at the Community Correctional Center in Lincoln.
“Each loss leaves an impact on the people who serve beside them, the families who love them, and the communities they protected,” said Colonel Bryan Waugh, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “When one officer falls, it’s not just one agency that grieves. Law enforcement from across the state and this nation grieve together.”
There are now 158 names etched on the granite wall memorializing Nebraska’s fallen heroes. Trooper McAcy will also be added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C. during a ceremony on National Law Enforcement Memorial Day next week.
