Lincoln Police are investigating a high-speed crash that injured two people late Tuesday night at 33rd and ‘O’ Streets.  Lt. Jason Goodwin says officers and LFR crews responded around 10:15. “The preliminary investigation determined a Ford F150 along with a Ford Escape were traveling next to each other westbound on O Street at high speeds.”

According to a police report, the two vehicles were street racing and speeds reached an estimated 75 mph at the time they crashed into an eastbound Acura that was turning left onto 33rd Street. The impact of the crash forced the Acura into the parking lot of the Jiffy Lube. Flying debris from the crash shattered the front glass window of the business and a vehicle in the area.

LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says a 23-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Acura suffered a broken leg, ankle, arm and hip. She also says the 22-year-old driver, who was also injured left the hospital against medical advice.

According to Thomas the 16-year-old driver of the Ford Escape was in the intensive care unit with a broken leg and rib and a shattered knee. The accident report indicates the the 17-year-old told police he was going about 75 mph at the time of the crash. But the report shows the speedometer of the SUV was stuck at 96 mph and the truck was stuck at 87 mph.

The investigation is continuing and police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has video of the incident to contact the Lincoln Police Department at 402-441-6000. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
