Drivers in Lincoln should prepare for several temporary street and lane closures beginning the week of July 19 as Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) completes pavement repairs, pavement marking work, and intersection improvements.
The first closure is scheduled for Sunday, July 19, when the intersection of 70th and Adams streets will be closed from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. for pavement marking work. Northbound and westbound traffic will be detoured via 84th Street, Holdrege Street, and Havelock Avenue, while eastbound and southbound traffic will be directed to Cotner Boulevard, 66th Street, and Leighton Avenue.
Beginning Monday, July 20, the eastbound outside lane of South Street between 17th and 27th streets will close for pavement repairs. The work is expected to continue through July 30. Also starting Monday, the southbound outside lane of 70th Street between Southfork Boulevard and Nebraska Parkway and the eastbound outside lane of Nebraska Parkway between 66th and 70th streets will close for construction of a new right-turn lane on Nebraska Parkway.
Lane closures may shift as work progresses, with the project expected to continue through late fall. On Tuesday, July 21, the northbound inside lane of 56th Street between Van Dorn Street and Normal Boulevard will close for pavement repairs. That work is expected to be completed by July 31.
LTU encourages motorists to allow extra travel time, consider alternate routes, and use caution when traveling through work zones.
