Lincoln Fire and Rescue has achieved an ISO Class One rating, the highest distinction awarded to fire departments nationwide. The Insurance Services Office Public Protection Classification evaluates fire departments on factors including personnel, training, equipment, facilities, emergency communications and community risk reduction.
Lincoln Fire and Rescue Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says the rating reflects years of work by the department and its partners. “It’s really a testament to the hard work of our firefighters, our chief, our city leadership and our community,” Lierman says.
Less than one percent of fire departments nationwide have received a Class One rating. Lincoln previously held a Class Two rating. Lierman says the designation could also benefit local property owners. “Depending on your insurance company and your individual policy, there could be some potential savings on your insurance premiums.”
The rating recognizes collaboration among Lincoln Fire and Rescue, the Lincoln Emergency Communication Center, Lincoln Water System, other city departments and community partners. Lierman says the Class One rating is a first for Lincoln Fire and Rescue and recognizes the continued investment in public safety.
“This is something that we’re really proud of, and it’s something that we want the community to be proud of as well.”
