By Tom Stanton Aug 21, 2026 | 3:46 PM

Two petitions dealing with online sports wagering have met the signature requirements to appear on Nebraska’s 2026 general election ballot. The Secretary of State’s Office says the Online Sports Wagering Authorization Constitutional Amendment collected at least 138,473 valid signatures. Organizers also met the required county threshold in 64 counties.

A separate Online Sports Wagering Regulation Initiative collected at least 96,918 valid signatures and met the county requirement in 55 counties. The Elections Division stopped the verification process after both petitions reached 110 percent of the required valid signatures, as allowed under state law.

The Secretary of State’s Office will hold public hearings on the measures in each of Nebraska’s three congressional districts. Dates and locations will be announced later. Officials are still processing two other petitions,  the Protect Nebraskans’ Initiative and Referendum Powers Constitutional Amendment and the Fairness for Girls Constitutional Amendment.

The Secretary of State must certify the 2026 general election ballot by September 11th. All petition decisions are expected to be announced by that date.
