Two Lincoln women were cited for child abuse after deputies responded to Pawnee Lake Sunday afternoon for a report of a two-year-old child left unattended inside a vehicle.  Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner says deputies were called shortly after 4 p.m. after someone saw the child alone inside a van and screaming.

Wagner says the child was in the van for at least 25 minutes.  It was not running and the windows were rolled up on a 77 degree afternoon.  Before deputies arrived, Wagner says the child’s mother removed the child from the van.

The child’s mothers were identified as 54-year-old off-duty LPD Captain Mayde McGuire and 49-year-old Mary Tobiassen of Lincoln. During the investigation, McGuire was given a preliminary breath test that showed a blood alcohol concentration of .108

Wagner says both women went fishing while the child was in the van. McGuire and Tobiassen were each cited for misdemeanor child abuse.  LPD Assistant Chief Ryan Dale says  McGuire has been placed on investigative suspension pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
