On his monthly appearance on Sports Nightly Monday on KLIN and the Huskers Radio Network, Nebraska athletic director Troy Dannen said that he’s confident that the Nebraska Athletic Department will sell out of tickets for the Cornhuskers’ football season opener against Ohio on Sept. 5.
Nebraska has sold out the last 410 home football games, dating back to Nov. 3, 1962, but the streak appeared to be in jeopardy last week when a story by WOWT in Omaha reported that over 8,000 tickets remained unsold for each for the Huskers’ seven home games this season. However, a slew of discounts to those tickets helped to encourage sales, bringing NU closer to a sellout. Dannen said Monday that only 1,400 tickets remained for the Ohio game, and he felt good that those tickets would purchased. Dannen also mentioned that around 2,300-2,400 tickets remained for the second home game, against Bowling Green on Sept. 13.
The streak of 410 consecutive sellouts is an ongoing NCAA record, well ahead of Notre Dame’s since-snapped streak of 273 straight sellouts from 1973 to 2019. The streak began as Bob Devaney rebuilt the Nebraska football program, beginning on homecoming of his first season of 1962 and stretching to the present day.
