Several construction projects will disrupt traffic in Lincoln beginning Tuesday, including back-to-back overnight closures of Interstate 180 and utility work affecting “A” Street and Touzalin Avenue.
The Nebraska Department of Transportation says the I-180 closures are needed while crews install girders for the new U.S. Highway 6–Sun Valley Boulevard bridge over the interstate.
Northbound I-180 Closure
Weather permitting, northbound I-180 will close at 9 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, between reference points 2.1 and 3.47.
Northbound traffic will be detoured at O Street and directed west to the U.S. Highway 77–O Street–Interstate 80 interchange. Drivers headed toward westbound U.S. Highway 34 will need to use Exit 399 and follow the marked U.S. 34 detour.
Northbound I-180 is scheduled to reopen by 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Southbound I-180 Closure
Southbound I-180 will close at 9 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, along the same portion of the interstate.
Traffic will be detoured at the I-80/I-180 interchange, Exit 401, and directed west on I-80 to the U.S. Highway 77 interchange at Exit 397. Drivers will then be routed to West O Street.
Southbound I-180 is expected to reopen by 6 a.m. Thursday.
Single-lane closures may also be used in the direction opposite each overnight shutdown. NDOT says the schedule could be revised if weather conditions delay the work.
“A” Street Lane Closures
Lincoln Transportation and Utilities says intermittent westbound lane closures will begin Tuesday on “A” Street between 56th Street and Eldon Drive.
Traffic will be shifted into the common left-turn lane while utility work is underway. The project is scheduled to be completed by Friday, September 25.
Touzalin Avenue Closure
Northbound Touzalin Avenue will close Tuesday between Adams and Knox streets for utility work.
The recommended detour is Adams Street to 70th Street to Fremont Street. Access to homes in the construction area will be maintained.
The Touzalin Avenue work is expected to be completed by Thursday, September 10.
Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes, allow additional travel time and exercise caution around construction crews. Project schedules remain subject to weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
