Lincoln Parks and Recreation will conduct a controlled burn Wednesday in Wilderness Park as part of ongoing restoration work and efforts to reduce wildfire risk.
Parks staff will burn brush piles from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in an area southeast of South First Street and Pioneers Boulevard.
The work will require a temporary closure of the Yellow Trail between markers 19 and 22. The trail section will close at 9 a.m. Wednesday and is scheduled to reopen at noon Thursday.
“Controlled burns, which are conducted in stationary, limited areas, are a tool used as part of the restoration of Wilderness Park to manage brush and reduce wildfire risk,” Greenways District Supervisor Aaron Druery said.
Druery said Parks and Recreation staff monitor weather and air quality conditions to make sure burns can be conducted safely.
