Hometown Hero – Joey Mims II

There are heroes among us, working every day to make our communities great. Froggy98 and Hometown Hero Appliance Repair want to recognize these deserving heroes and share their stories!

This month we are honored to recognize 911 dispatcher JOEY MIMS II.

Joey was nominated by DeMoine Adams, former Husker & Professional Football player and CEO of TeamMates Mentoring, who’s life was saved in part by Joey’s heroic actions.

DeMoine’s life was saved by CPR a few weeks ago. He woke up with tightness in his chest, got dizzy, and collapsed unconscious. His wife Fara heard the crash, found him unresponsive, and called 911. Joey was the 911 dispatcher, and helped Fara stay calm and helped walk her through CPR over the phone.

After a few minutes, Lincoln Fire & Rescue crews arrived onsite, and DeMoine was responsive again. He was taken to the hospital, where they discovered he had a pulmonary embolism (blocked artery in the lungs). Fara’s quick action and Joey’s calm instructions helped save his life.

DeMoine’s wife Fara commented: “I appreciate so much everything that Joey did. His calm demeanor and instructions were just such a relief in a time of panic.”

DeMoine added: “Everyone should find ways to thank first responders for what they do. It is a business that goes unthanked, and we’re just very fortunate to be able to say thank you to Joey, this team and to others that make this a priority 24/7.
